How to Block/Stop Spam in WordPress
Many people use comments for spamming. Sometimes we feel tired of getting spam. Actually it is not easy to make an automated program to detect spam as spam doesn’t fall into a specific category. Also day by day the spammers are using new techniques for spamming.

Akismet is very useful to use with wordpress. It blocks most of the spams. But as it it not possible to block all the spams we can follow a process to prevent spam. Like we can give some specific keywords which are marked as spam. After that any comment containing any of these words will be marked as spam. Now you can either delete these spams or keep them in the moderation queue. Moderation queue is for manual check up.
You can go to the option menu of your wordpress site and then the discussion sub-menu. You will see a section titled Comment Moderation where you can put suspicious words. Whenever these words are found in a comment wordpress will keep it for moderation queue. It will do the same even if you turn on the public commenting. Generally a spam always contains a link. If any comment contains more than 2 hyperlinks, the box of the comment moderation section detects it as spam. You can set this to any valid number. Also you can queue all comments containing one hyperlink.
You can put some words in the Comment Blacklist section. If any of these words are found in the comment wordpress will delete that automatically without queuing for moderation. So you need to be aware of inserting words as partial words can match here. Say you insert a word and there may be non-spam comments containing this word.
